What we do

As the flagship hospital of the NHS National Waiting Times Centre, we carry out a range of planned procedures to assist our NHS Board colleagues in reducing patient waiting times.

Surgical procedures
  • Cardiac surgery
  • Diagnostic cardiology
  • Interventional cardiology
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • General surgery
  • Ophthalmic surgery
  • Plastic surgery
  • Minor procedures
  • Endoscopy.
Diagnostic imaging procedures
  • General X-Ray
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning
  • Computer Tomography (CT) scanning
  • Bone Densitometry
  • Ultrasound.

In 2005/06, we carried out over 2,500 cataract procedures, which represents about 10% of all cataract operations undertaken by NHSScotland. The same year we carried out 11% of all hip and knee joint replacement operations undertaken by NHS Scotland.

In 2007, we will be bringing two previously unused theatres into commission - ensuring we can carry out even more orthopaedic surgery than ever before.

The West of Scotland Regional Heart and Lung Centre will also be opening at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2007.
