The Golden Jubilee National Hospital was established in 2002 with the key aim to reduce waiting times for surgery in the Scottish NHS. Capacity has more than doubled since this date and is expected to grow further in 2007 with the creation of the West of Scotland Regional Heart and Lung Centre.
We are the flagship hospital of the NHS National Waiting Times Centre, which also includes the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre.
Our unique status means that anyone, living anywhere in Scotland, can come to our hospital for surgery in a range of specialties:
- cardiac surgery
- diagnostic and interventional cardiology
- orthopaedic surgery
- general surgery
- ophthalmic surgery
- plastic surgery
- minor procedures
- endoscopy.
Our Radiology Department provides the following diagnostic procedures:
- X-ray
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning
- Computed Tomography (CT) scanning
- bone densitometry
- barium exams
- ultrasound.
We carried out 28,636 procedures against a target of 25,000, delivering two years early on our commitment to undertake 28,000 procedures per annum by 2007/08:
- 15,620 diagnostic imaging examinations – up 77%
- 13,016 inpatient and day cases – up 34%.
We carried out 10% of all cataract operations in NHS Scotland, 23% of cataracts in the West of Scotland (over 2,500 procedures).
Carried out 11% of all hip and knee joint replacements in NHS Scotland, 30% in the West of Scotland (over 1,100 procedures).
Treated 3% of all inpatient/day case general surgery procedures undertaken by NHS Scotland.
Our 2005 patient satisfaction survey shows that:
- everyone would recommend that patients should come to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital
- over 99% of patients were either delighted or satisfied with the nursing and consultant care they received
- over 99% of patients were delighted or satisfied with their room accomodation and level of cleanliness
- ninety nine percent of patients were delighted with the catering facilities within the hospital
- over 99% of patients were delighted or satisfied with the way the hospital took account of their personal needs
- over 99% were delighted or satisfied with their discharge arrangements
- all patients were delighted or satisfied with their dietary needs
- ninety nine percent of patients were delighted or satisfied with their first impression of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital
- over 99% were delighted or satisfied with the physiotherapy they received.
We have had no proven incidences of hospital-acquired Meticillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in the past two years.
Single patient rooms, strict hand washing guidelines and the use of alcohol hand gel all help us control infection. All our housekeepers report to our senior manager for Infection Control.
The new West of Scotland Regional Heart and Lung Centre will open at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2007.
