National Hospital confirms appointment of new Medical Director
The Golden Jubilee National Hospital is proud to announce that it has appointed Mike Higgins as its new Medical Director.
Dr Higgins took up the appointment on 1 December, after carrying out the role on an interim basis since the former Medical Director, Alistair Flowerdew, left the organisation. Dr Higgins was officially welcomed to the Board at his first Board meeting yesterday (Thursday 13 December 2012).
Speaking after his appointment, Mike said: “Having come through the organisation as a working clinician, I feel well equipped to take on this role and I’m really looking forward to continuing the Golden Jubilee’s good work. I am keen to help enhance and develop the already excellent services to ensure we continue to provide the best possible care for all our patients.
“I’ve always enjoyed working at the Golden Jubilee - we have a very positive culture here and are continually striving for excellence. The hospital has a major role to play in the future of the NHS inScotlandand I’m really excited to be part of that.”
Jill Young, Chief Executive, added: “I am delighted to officially welcome Mike to the Board as our new Medical Director. He has a wealth of experience and, since joining the organisation in 2008, has already proved to be a great asset. We look forward to his professional leadership and management as we continue to develop the provision of safe, effective, and quality medical services within the hospital.”

Mike began his medical career over 30 years ago and has predominantly worked in Anaesthesia and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care within the NHS. He joined the Golden Jubilee in 2008 as Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist and went on to become the Clinical Director of Intensive Care and Associate Medical Director (Surgical Specialties).
