Diagnostic imaging

The Department of Radiology provides a comprehensive diagnostic imaging service for our hospital departments, including:

  • General X-ray
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning
  • Computer Tomography (CT) scanning
  • bone densitometry
  • ultrasound
  • DEXA scanning
  • cardiac catheterisation.

We also act as a standalone diagnostic imaging centre for other NHS boards, helping to reduce patient waiting times for these key tests.

In March 2007 we started using PACS, the national Picture Archiving Communications System(PACS). This allows our images to be viewed instantly within our own hospital and others linked to the system.

Helpers and administrative staff support Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers and Technicians. All our Radiographers are registered with the Health Professionals Council and our Consultant Radiologists are Fellows of the Royal College of Radiologists.
