Infection control
Here at the Golden Jubilee, Infection Control is everyone’s responsibility! Clean hands, clean instruments – clean environment!
Our Infection Control team provides cover to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also have a team of 20 Infection Control Link Practitioners and over 120 staff have registered for the Cleanliness Champions course.
Historically, we have a good record in this area. Single patient rooms, strict hand washing guidelines and the use of alcohol hand gel all help us control infections, such as Meticillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA). Indeed, we have had no proven incidences of hospital acquired MRSA in the last two years.
All our housekeeping staff also report to our senior manager for Infection Control - ensuring that those cleaning our hospital are fully up to date on all infection control issues and procedures.
The team also:
- advise patients, staff and visitors on hand hygiene, isolation techniques and environmental cleanliness
- audits activities such as hand hygiene, waste, safe environment and sharps safety.
Our Surveillance Nurse manages surgical site infection surveillance in line with national guidelines, focussing on wound infection rates for up to 30 days after patients have had hip, knee or heart surgery.
Our Tissue Viability Nurse advises patients on wound care and pressure areas, including the use of special mattresses and overlays.
