Orthopaedic

Our Orthopaedic Department has a multidisciplinary approach to care, with our consultants, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists all working together for one purpose – the benefit of our patients.

Patients visiting our Orthopaedic Department may have one of the following procedures carried out:

  • Primary Hip Replacement (cemented, cementless, ceramic, metal)
  • Primary Knee Replacement
  • Resurfacing Hip Replacement
  • Unicompartimental Knee Replacement
  • Revision Hip Replacement
  • Revision Knee Replacement
  • Prosthetic Infections
  • Periprosthetic Fractures around a Hip and Knee Replacement
  • Knee Arthroscopy
  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
  • Foot Surgery (including hammer toes and bunions).
  • Hand Surgery (including Carpal tunnel decompressions, Ganglions, Dupuytren’s contracture).

A team of secretaries and middle grade orthopaedic trainees support our eight full-time NHS Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons:

Mr Andrew Kinninmonth FRCS, Clinical Director
Mr Fred Picard MD
Mr Martin Sarungi MD
Mr Joseph Baines FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic)
Mr Niall Munro FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic)
Mr Kamal Deep FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic)
Mr Christopher Wilson FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic)
Mr Alexander Siegmeth FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic)

One of the great successes within the Orthopaedic Department is the Caledonian Technique. This is a pioneering method that means patients are back on their feet hours after surgery – reducing the patient’s length of stay in hospital.
