Eye surgery

The most common type of eye surgery at the Golden Jubilee is treatment for cataracts. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that may reduce your vision.
In 2005/06, we carried out over 2,500 cataract procedures, which represents about 10% of all cataract operations undertaken by NHSScotland.

General surgery

We also undertake a number of routine general surgical procedures. The most common type of surgery include varicose vein removals and hernia repairs.

Plastic surgery

We also perform a number of plastic surgery procedures. These include:

  • breast reduction
  • breast augmentation
  • rhinoplasty
  • pinnaplasty
  • scar revisions.
Minor procedures

Some minor procedures can take place in our Outpatients Department. The most popular procedures are the removal of cysts and lesions, and minor scar revision.

Scopes

We also provide endoscopy tests for patients. An endoscope is a long flexible tube that has a camera and light inside, so when you swallow it, we can look inside your body.

We also provide colonoscopy tests for patients. Similar to an endoscope this test looks particularly at the inside of your large bowel, but instead of swallowing the tube, it will be inserted into your rectum and up into your bowel.
