Clinical laboratories
The clinical laboratories provide a consultant-led service in clinical chemistry, haematology, blood transfusion and microbiology.
Immunological, genetic and other tests are also available. Samples for histopathology examination are sent to Glasgow Western Infirmary, and cytology samples are sent to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for processing and reporting.
All disciplines are housed in one self-contained area. The blood sciences area accommodates specimen reception, haematology and clinical chemistry. Blood transfusion and microbiology are in separate areas adjacent to the main laboratory.
The lab is staffed 24 hours a day with the exception of microbiology, which provides a routine service during the working day and an emergency service is available if needed.
