Business services
Business Services covers seven distinct areas that support the day to day working of the hospital. They are Business Development, Reception and Switchboard, Booking Office, Transport, Medical Records, Medical Secretaries and Ward Unit Co-ordinators.
The Business Development team plan all allocated theatre and clinic space at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. They do this in partnership with the National Waiting Times Unit at the Scottish Government and our 17 referring hospitals across Scotland.
The team also agree with our NHS colleagues the specific specialties and the number of patients that are referred to us.
Greeting all patients and visitors at main reception are our Reception staff, who are always happy to help you with any of your questions.
If you phone our main hospital number (0141 951 5000), you will be put through to our Switchboard team who co-ordinate all external and internal calls. They will be delighted to put you through to the department or person you need to speak to.
Once we receive a referral, our centralised booking service phone the patient and discuss a convenient date for them to attend the hospital. At this time they also discuss any particular requirements or needs a patient may have.
The Booking Office arrange:
- co-ordination of patient referrals;
- liaison with referring hospitals across Scotland;
- booking of consultants;
- outpatient appointments;
- admissions;
- theatre schedules;
- booking hospital beds;
- transport;
- stays at the adjoining Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre for patients and/or family members; and
- the information for activity reporting.
Based on individual patient needs, our Transport team provides a transport service to the hospital, transferring patients from all wards and clinics to either their home or a pre-arranged drop-off point (normally another hospital).
We also:
- deliver lab samples to most Glasgow hospitals twice a day;
- deliver medical records to all hospitals in Scotland;
- provide an out of hours service for hospital pharmacy collections;
- provide transport for staff attending meetings at other hospitals, where possible; and
- arrange travel to conferences etc, such as organising plane and train tickets.
Our Medical Records Department is responsible for preparing all casenotes for clinics and admissions. The team also store and track all patient casenotes.
The team clinically codes all patient treatment and ensure that the correct treatment data is sent to the Information Statistics Division (ISD), Scotland's national organisation for health information, statistics and IT services.
Our Medical Secretaries transcribe all patient related dictated tapes and are responsible for passing on all patient discharge and surgery notes to referring hospitals, GPs and Medical Records Departments.
Our Ward Unit Co-ordinators admit, discharge and transfer all patients. They also file patients' reports and results, meet and greet all ward visitors and provide administrative support to clinical colleagues.
