Rosemary McKenna – Clinical Nurse Manager

“In May 2007 I got the job as Clinical Nurse Manager at the West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre. As it had not yet opened, I was working between my new post at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and my post within the Western Infirmary in Glasgow.

“It was a year later before I transferred to the Golden Jubilee permanently but by that time I knew a lot of staff and managers – that eased me in so that I didn’t find it quite as daunting starting my new job!

“It also helped that I had the support of the Human Resources team at the Golden Jubilee throughout this period of transition.

“Whenever there was something I wasn’t sure about I would go to the HR team and they were always helpful.  They were a great support to me when I started and they definitely made the whole process of starting a new job so much easier.

“It is always sad leaving colleagues behind to start a new job but as soon as I walked in to the Golden Jubilee I realised how friendly the people are. From the reception staff to the porters, everyone was so welcoming and that is one of the main reasons I enjoy working here.

“We also have great teams on the wards, no one is afraid to ask questions or offer friendly advice and that makes the job so much easier.

“There is so much going on at the Golden Jubilee with the heart and lung centre, the national services – such as the transplant unit – and all the other specialties that are carried out here. It is an exciting place to work at the moment and I’m sure there will be plenty of challenges in the future for us to look forward to.”
