Excellent staff continue to shine
As we come to the end of another year, it is only natural that we think back to the year that has almost gone. For us here at the Golden Jubilee, 2012 has been an exciting year as we marked our 10th year as part of the NHS inScotland.
Our celebrations have been many and varied - from public and staff events to invite-only visits. But one of the best and most important was the celebration of our staff. And quite right too. It is each and every member of staff who, day in and day out, contribute to the success and achievements in patient and customer care that make our national hospital, renowned hotel and innovative Centre forHealth Scienceso respected across Scotland and further afield.
Quality care, compassion, innovation and ambition to always be the best – that’s who and what we are.
We launched our Excellence Awards to recognise those colleagues, teams and services that provide ‘excellence in’ their every day working life and make a difference to our whole organisation and our patients as a result.
Every one of the nominations – and we received just under 50 across a range of medical, clinical, support and hotel services – was a worthy winner. Each highlighted how we are continuing to improve the experience for each patient and customer who steps through our front door. One of the best features of the nominations was that they came from the people who use, volunteer and work in our services.
Everyone who was nominated embodied the spirit of our values – with a ‘can do attitude’, a commitment to quality, showing dignity and respect to their patients, customers and colleagues, and working effectively together. We are extremely proud of our staff and their commitment to excellence and hope that they are as proud of themselves.
We were also delighted that the awards were supported by the Minister for Public Health, Michael Matheson MSP, who kindly presented the winners’ trophies and certificates of special recognition after our Annual Review. He was delighted to meet with the winners and commented that it was great to be able to recognise those members of staff who have gone the extra mile in carrying out their day-to-day work.
And each member of our Board was especially pleased to have lunch with all those nominated a couple of weeks ago.
With just a few more 10 year events to come, we are looking forward to 2013.
But no matter what happens in the next 12 months, we can be sure of one thing – that each and every one of our staff will do their best to rise to the opportunities and the challenges of the coming year.
We wish everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas and good health and fortune in 2013.
