Double award nomination for the Golden Jubilee
The Golden Jubilee National Hospital has been nominated in two categories in the prestigious annual Icon Awards 2016.
For the second year in a row, the Golden Jubilee has been shortlisted in both the Employer of the Year (over 200 employers) and the Uniformed Icon category, with our Employee Director, Jane Christie-Flight, the only NHS staff member nominated.
Taking place on Sunday 23 October, the Icon Awards will reward and celebrate the contributions of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) individuals across Scotland. The Golden Jubilee was nominated for its strong track record of pioneering diversity and equality, with dedicated structures in place to support the diverse workforce.
Last year, the Golden Jubilee made history when it was named Runner Up Employer of the Year at the inaugural Icon Awards and is looking to go one better in 2016.
Our Employee Director, equality lead, and one of our Senior Clinical Perfusionists, Jane Christie-Flight has been selected as a finalist in the Uniformed Icon category for the second year running. Jane regularly goes the extra mile to support and help break down barriers within the workplace.
Commenting on the awards, Jane said: “I am absolutely delighted to have again been selected as a finalist for the Icon Awards 2016.
“I have been a Perfusionist for 26 years and being able to provide support to patients with complex heart or lung problems has been very rewarding.
“The Golden Jubilee has taken great strides in its ‘equality and diversity journey’ over the past few years. We work extremely hard to ensure we have an inclusive workforce that celebrates and highlights the differences in backgrounds, experiences and equality mix of our team who provide such a high quality service for the patients of Scotland.”
The Golden Jubilee is the only NHS organisation nominated for the prestigious Employer of the Year award
David Miller, Interim Director of Human Resources at the Golden Jubilee, added: “At the Golden Jubilee, our values of equality, dignity and respect are at the heart of our approach to healthcare. We value the rich talents, skills and experiences of our diverse staff and they are critical to our provision of the highest standard of care and service for everyone, delivered in an inclusive environment.”
Scott Barclay, Chair of the 2016 Icon Awards, said: "I am delighted to see the Golden Jubilee Hospital nominated for the second year running in our Employer of the Year award (over 200 employees) at the 2016 Icon Awards. The Golden Jubilee has stitched diversity and inclusion into the very thread that binds the whole organisation together. They have made dignity and respect key organisational values and have strived with success to live by those values every single day. I congratulate the Golden Jubilee Hospital on their nomination and wish them the best of luck.”
Earlier this year, the Golden Jubilee was named the Top Health and Social Care Provider in the UK on the prestigious Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) 2016.
