Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service
The Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service is dedicated to managing patients with severe heart failure who may be candidates for heart transplantation and/or ventricular assist devices (artificial hearts). We provide a national service caring for patients throughout Scotland from the Borders to the Shetland Islands.
Our team is focused on delivering high quality care to our patients and includes:
- heart failure and transplant cardiologists;
- cardiovascular surgeons;
- cardiac imagine experts;
- arryhthmia specialists;
- a psychologist;
- transplant and ventricular assist device (VAD) coordinators;
- nursing staff;
- physiotherapists; and
The management of heart failure patients involves early identification and control of risk factors, and predisposing conditions for heart failure.
What we do
At The Golden Jubilee National Hospital, we offer the following treatment options:
- Cardiac Resynchronisation Devices (pacemakers)
- Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
- ECMO (a technique that oxygenates blood outside the body)
- Heart Transplantation
When used along with with patient education to empower patients, these treatment options improve a patient's prognosis and decreases the likelihood of hospital readmission.
