The National Waiting Times Centre (part of NHS Scotland) is offering exciting opportunities for Physician Associates to join an expanding orthopaedic service. We anticipate a starting date of February 2019, although this may be negotiable. At present we have 5 Physician Associates who are an integral part of a clinical team which includes 16 Orthopaedic Consultants, Clinical Fellows and Trainees. A large part of the working week will be spent assisting Orthopaedic Consultants in theatre, and appointees will also participate in outpatient clinics and inpatient care. There are ample opportunities to become involved in research/audit, and the department holds fortnightly Continuing Medical Education meetings. There is facility to undertake funded study leave. The posts are open both to experienced and newly graduating Physician Associates/Assistants, and mentorship would be available from our current team of very experienced Physician Assistants.
The unit enjoys excellent facilities, and is one of the largest arthroplasty centres in the UK, performing over 3,800 primary and revision hip/knee operations per year. We also perform over 1000 other procedures including knee arthroscopy, hand surgery, and a full range of foot and ankle procedures.
You will be a qualified Physician Associate who will work alongside a surgeon to deliver high quality evidence-based clinical care as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a wide range of healthcare services to patients. Qualified candidates will have graduated from an accredited Physician Associate program in the UK
