For the fourth year in a row, the Golden Jubilee has been named as one of the top 100 employers in the UK for supporting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) members of staff in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI). It also continues to be the only Scottish NHS Board in the top 100 list.

The WEI is a measurement of how an organisation is meeting the needs of LGBT staff, along with serving as an effective indication of how progress is being met against general equality targets.

NHS Golden Jubilee, which includes the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Conference Hotel, Innovation Centre and Research Institute, has faced rigorous competition from over 430 organisations which took part in the WEI this year making to meet a series of strict criteria, ranking 88th in the UK as a whole.

Chief Executive of the Golden Jubilee, Jill Young, commented on the accomplishment, saying: “With the criteria becoming more rigorous every year, we are once again proud to be recognised as one of the top employers in the UK who are dedicated to celebrating equality and diversity within our workforce.

“We cannot be complacent – a diverse workforce means that we can offer a wide range of ideas, skills, resources and energies to the life-changing work we carry out for NHSScotland on a daily basis.

“In 2017, we launched our updated Trans Inclusion policy to enable trans staff and service users to feel supported. We were also delighted to have a group from Golden Jubilee march at Pride Glasgow for the first time and have developed our Golden Jubilee LGBT Allies to champion equality across the Golden Jubilee.”

Darren Towers, Executive Director, Stonewall, added: “The Golden Jubilee and all those who have made this year’s Top 100 Employers list have done a fantastic job. Taking part in our Index shows real commitment to understanding and advancing LGBT equality.”

The Golden Jubilee has a very strong track record in equality and diversity. In addition to the WEI, the organisation is a past Icon Award winner, has achieved Investors in Young People, and is a Disability Confident Employer.
