NHS Golden Jubilee celebrates 4 finalists in the 2025 Scotland’s Health Awards

NHS Golden Jubilee is proud to announce that 4 exceptional colleagues have been named finalists in the 2025 Scotland’s Health Awards, selected from over 800 nominations across 17 categories.
Scotland’s Health Awards celebrate the dedication, innovation and compassion of health and social care professionals across the country.
This year’s finalists from NHS Golden Jubilee reflect the organisation’s commitment to excellence, equity and innovation in patient care.
Our finalists are:
- Professor Colin Berry - Tackling Health Inequalities Award: A leading cardiovascular researcher and clinician, is the Professor of Cardiology and Imaging at the University of Glasgow, Director of the British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence and Director of Research in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health. He is also the Director of Research at NHS Golden Jubilee. Colin has championed gender equity and socioeconomic fairness in heart health, driving policy and diagnostic reform to improve outcomes for Scotland’s most deprived communities.
- Andrew Steel - Volunteers Award: A heart transplant recipient and dedicated volunteer, Andrew supports patients through the transplant journey while also pioneering ethical Artificial Intelligence tools to enhance patient involvement in research.
- Eireann Murray - Allied Health Professional Award: A Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Advanced Heart Failure, Eireann has developed a unique prehabilitation service for patients awaiting heart transplants, improving their physical and psychological outcomes through bespoke circuit classes and personalised care.
- Jonathan Hannay - Global Citizenship Award: A Consultant Surgeon in General, Colorectal and Surgical Oncology, Jonathan has volunteered for over a decade at Chitokoloki Mission Hospital in Zambia, providing life-changing surgical care to patients in one of the country’s most remote regions.
NHS Golden Jubilee Chief Executive, Carolynne O’Connor, said: “We are incredibly proud of Jonathan, Colin, Andrew and Eireann for being recognised as finalists in this year’s Scotland’s Health Awards.
“Their care, compassion and professionalism are a credit to NHS Golden Jubilee and to NHS Scotland as a whole. These nominations reflect the outstanding work our teams and volunteers deliver every day, and we are delighted to see their contributions celebrated on a national stage.”
The winners will be announced at the Scotland’s Health Awards ceremony on Thursday 6 November 2025 at the O2 Academy (Corn Exchange), Edinburgh.
