NHS Golden Jubilee boosts diagnostic capacity with new cardiac CT Scanner
NHS Golden Jubilee is set to enhance its diagnostic imaging capabilities with the installation of a third cardiac computerised tomography (CT) scanner, a major investment that will improve access to life-saving diagnostics for thousands of patients.
Designed to meet the growing demand across Scotland for CT imaging and help meet waiting time initiatives, this new equipment uses cutting-edge single heartbeat scan technology to enable the imaging of an additional 5,000 patients each year.
Divisional Director of Operations for NHS Golden Jubilee, Christine Divers, said: “This investment reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting national efforts to reduce waiting times.
“This addition will significantly expand access to diagnostic services, bringing a wide range of benefits for patients across Scotland - particularly in cardiac and general imaging.
“Patients will experience faster scan times and improved image quality, while our increased capacity and streamlined workflow will ensure quicker access to the diagnostics they need.”
The new scanner will also support the development of innovative services such as robotic orthopaedic surgery, while reinforcing the hospital’s role as a cardiac centre of excellence.
Jack Johnstone, 78, became one of the first Scottish patients to benefit from this new CT Scanner.
Jack, a retired Veteran, from Edinburgh, visited NHS Golden Jubilee for a CT scan following a stroke he experienced in March. After months of appointments and concern over his lung health, Jack was referred to the Golden Jubilee to receive diagnostic tests as part of its role as a National Treatment Centre.
Jack said: “It’s a relief to be seen quickly, when you’re anxious and unsure what’s going on, waiting just adds to the worry.
“The scan was simple, no fuss, and I was in and out in no time. That kind of speed makes a real difference when you’re trying to get answers and move forward with your health.”
This new CT scanner further cements NHS Golden Jubilee’s role as a major diagnostic centre for imaging and scopes in addition to specialising in orthopaedics, heart and lung, ophthalmology and general surgery services.
