Employee Director

Following an election process led by the Joint Trade Union Committee, we are pleased to announce that Clinical Perfusionist, Stuart Burnside of Unite the Union, has been elected as the new Staff Side Chair and appointed as Employee Director/Non-Executive Director by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care.

Stuart brings over 25 years of trade union experience at both local and national levels. He is currently the Unite Golden Jubilee Branch Chair, and previously served as the Unite Convener in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC).

As Employee Director, Stuart will continue to provide a vital link between the Board, senior leaders and staff. He will work to provide advice to the Executive Directors and the Senior Leadership Team on workforce issues and, as a Non-Executive Director, will provide a staff perspective to the Board.

Stuart’s NHS career began in Medical Physics within NHS GGC. Around a decade ago, he joined the Golden Jubilee to train as a Clinical Perfusionist, initially on a Service Level Agreement from NHS GGC.

Stuart will work in this new capacity to continue to strengthen staff representation and engagement across our organisation.
