NHS Golden Jubilee Consultant Cardiologist awarded Honorary Professorship by University of Glasgow

NHS Golden Jubilee is delighted to announce the appointment of Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Medical Education, Lorna Swan as an Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow.

The honorary title recognises Professor Swan’s clinical and academic contribution to the specialty of Adult Congenital Heart Disease and to Cardio-obstetrics, the care of women with heart disease during pregnancy. It also reflects her longstanding commitment to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals, as well as advancing research and innovation in cardiovascular medicine.

Working as a Consultant Cardiologist Professor Swan was appointed NHS Golden Jubilee’s Director of Medical Education in 2024. In this role, she leads medical education across the organisation, supporting undergraduate medical students, resident doctors, specialty trainees, locally employed doctors, consultants and physician associates.

Alongside her work at NHS Golden Jubilee, Professor Swan has a long-standing relationship with the University of Glasgow through teaching, research and clinical academia. She currently holds an honorary academic position in the University's School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, where she contributes to teaching and supports the development of future medical professionals.

The new Honorary Professor title further strengthens the partnership between NHS Golden Jubilee and the University of Glasgow, creating additional opportunities for collaboration in education, research and workforce development.

Professor Swan said: "I am delighted and honoured to be awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the University of Glasgow.

"Education has been an important part of my career and I am passionate about supporting and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

“I am fortunate to work with talented colleagues across both NHS Golden Jubilee and the University of Glasgow who are committed to delivering excellence in patient care, education and research.

"This appointment reflects the strong relationship between our organisations and I look forward to continuing to build opportunities for collaboration that will benefit learners, staff and ultimately patients across Scotland."

Her new appointment will help strengthen links between clinical practice and academia, supporting collaborative research, high-quality teaching and the development of Scotland's healthcare workforce.
