The Golden Jubilee has made a good start to the Year of Young People by receiving recognition from West Dunbartonshire Council for their commitment to the Schools Employability Skills Programme.

The National NHS Board, which has a vision for leading quality, research and innovation for the NHS, regularly meets with students from local schools and facilitates work experience across the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Research institute and Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel.

Elaine Barr, Recruitment Manager, commented: “It is vitally important that the NHS has a future workforce that is fit for purpose and we believe it is our responsibility to show the different opportunities, career pathways and varied roles the NHS can offer.

"We attend local career evenings for students, give guidance on completing application forms for work, as well as provide work experience and volunteer opportunities.

“As one of West Dunbartonshire’s biggest employers, and an organisation which will be expanding over the next three years, we feel it is our responsibility to support and develop young people.

"It is a great way to develop a more dynamic and productive workforce and can help tackle issues such as an ageing workforce, skills gaps, talent management and succession planning.”

Councillor Karen Conaghan, Convenor of Educational Services, said: “West Dunbartonshire Council has built a strong partnership with the Golden Jubilee and the NHS where we are committed to working together to help our young residents develop their skills and gain real work experience through apprenticeships.

"This is providing positive outcomes for our young people who have gained excellent training, skills and employment.

“The Council will continue working with the NHS and partners to ensure all our young people have the best start in life and the skills to progress their careers.”

As 2018 is the Year of Young People, the Golden Jubilee is also focusing its efforts on introducing additional modern apprenticeships across its services.
