The Golden Jubilee National Hospital will  next year welcome another CT scanner, benefiting even more patients in the future

The  Golden Jubilee is to yet again increase the number of Scottish patients being treated at the national hospital as part of the Scottish Government’s multi million pound Waiting Times Improvement Plan.

Announced earlier this week, the Plan will see the Golden Jubilee providing patients with more Computer Tomography (CT) scans through an additional machine.

The new CT scanner is expected to be operational by March 2019 and will benefit approximately an extra 10,500 Scottish patients per annum.

The Golden Jubilee will also be introducing a new mobile Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) which will deliver 400 more procedures from March 2019. A new additional permanent  Cath Lab will be in place by March 2020 and will deliver 800 additional procedures a year.

The announcement means the Clydebank-based hospital will be able to continue to increase the services they provide for patients and, in turn, support NHS Boards around the country in improving their own waiting times.

Jill Young, Chief Executive of the Golden Jubilee, said: “This important announcement means we can expand our CT scan and Cath Lab provision significantly and help treat thousands more patients every year for conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

“This is good news for our hospital and great news for patients. It is also a ringing endorsement of the quality, innovation and research which surrounds everything we do at the Golden Jubilee on a daily basis, all designed to help treat the people of Scotland and improve as many outcomes as possible.”

All this comes hot on the heels of the hospital’s recent expansion plans that include:

  • providing an additional 600 endoscopies between September 2018 and March 2019 and 1,200 endoscopy procedures annually for 2019/20
  • commencing work on providing additional general surgery activity, providing 250 procedures per annum in 2019/20.
  • ongoing work to expand ophthalmology and orthopaedic services.
