Almost 3000 people helped the Golden Jubilee celebrate 70 years of the NHS and 10 years of their heart and lung service at their Gala Day last Sunday (2 September 2018).

Staff, supporters and the local community experienced a day of fun filled attractions and activities to keep the family entertained.

The big celebration kicked-off with a parade of local community groups, before West Dunbartonshire Provost William Hendrie declared the Gala Day open.

Master of Ceremonies was ‘The Greatest Showman’ and he was on hand to provide the updates, chat to the crowds and introduce the live acts- including special guest Princess Belle.

Different coloured zones gave people the chance to walk round the grounds, buy a gift or get information at one of the 40+ stalls, take part in games and challenges, or watch their little ones enjoy a stint on the bouncy castles, ponies and fairground rides.

For older children there was the chance to test their gaming skills against the Golden Jubilee staff or assent the climbing wall or beat the goalie. To encourage healthy lifestyles our Centre for Health and Wellbeing team put on a traditional sports day for kids and adults and Jog Scotland held a fun run for children led by mascot dog Jog Scotty.

Jill Young, Chief Executive of the Golden Jubilee, said: “The Gala Day was such a fantastic success, it was truly a wonderful day enjoyed by all that attended.

“It was an extremely family and community-based day the fact that the rain managed to stay away made it even better.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of our Gala Day, as they helped make it such a memorable success.”

Bronagh Bell, Director of Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel and part of the Gala Day Organising Committee said:  “The aim of this fun-packed day was to say thank you to the local community and also to our Golden Jubilee staff for their hard work and dedication to caring for the people of Scotland.

“Organising an event on this scale is a mammoth task with so much attention to detail required and I personally know the effort, energy and enthusiasm that our team put into it.

 “The objective was to create a fun day for Golden Jubilee staff, their families and the local community and I think we achieved that.  It was wonderful to see so many happy faces!”

Gala Day organisers would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle, Tombola or the Gold Star Prize Draw, those who attended and the many volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the smooth running of the event.
