Delivering care through collaboration

July 05, 2018

Around 150 members of NHSScotland staff raised the roof at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank as they joined forces with colleagues throughout the UK in last night’s (Wednesday 4 July) NHS Big Sing A Long, broadcast live on ITV.

Staff packed into the hospital’s auditorium as part of a TV celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the NHS, where they joined a live-link to sing a rendition of The Beatles classic ‘With a Little Help from My Friends.’

Sara Cox and Ashley Banjo hosted the programme, featuring former Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley, ex-JLS singer Aston Merrygold, Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh plus a host of other celebrities.

Star of the night was Golden Jubilee National Hospital’s Lily Hendry, who at 79 years of age is one of their much valued theatre scrub nurses.

Lily, from Anniesland, was an absolute star and stole the show in a pre-recorded TV segment; dancing with Aston Merrygold.

Jeane Freeman, Scotland’s new Cabinet Secretary for Health and former Chair of the Golden Jubilee Board, also attended the evening and was on hand to cut the 70th Anniversary celebratory cake with Chief Executive, Jill Young and Chair of the Golden Jubilee Board, Susan Douglas-Scott.

Despite best efforts of everyone involved, the assembled groups up and down the country just missed out on securing the Guinness World Record for the largest mass-singing participation.

However, the real winners on the evening were the staff in the NHS who showcased their incredible skills by way of promoting their extraordinary stories.

Golden Jubilee's Chief Executive Jill Young said: “We had an amazing night as Scotland’s sole representatives in the Big NHS Sing A Long.

“We were also grateful to our Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jeane Freeman, for coming along to support us in this historic and monumental event.

“As an organisation dedicated to quality, research and innovation, it is important we promote the exceptional work carried out by our dedicated and highly skilled members of staff - last night’s NHS Big Sing A Long, certainly delivered it.

“However, not only is it the 70th Anniversary of the NHS but we’ve been marking another very special milestone too, as we celebrate 10 years of delivering Heart and Lung Services, here at the Golden Jubilee Hospital.

“We’d like to thank everyone who made the effort to come along last night - we truly had a wonderful evening.”

Chair Susan Douglas Scott said: “I’d like to thank everyone involved in what turned out to be a fantastic evening - celebrating the wonderful staff we have working in the NHS and providing brilliant services to our patients and their families.

“To have national TV exposure of our staff and services was too good an opportunity to miss and what a brilliant platform from which to thank those who deliver services each and every day.”

A charity single will be recorded and released following Wednesday’s event and all the proceeds will go to the NHS charities 'Together.'

Please help us to raise, not only the roof, but also the single to top the charts and be the No1 best seller.
