New Board Member for NHS Golden Jubilee

Today (Thursday 25 August 2022), the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf MSP announced the appointment of Mr Steven Wallace as a Member of the NHS Golden Jubilee Board.

Steven Wallace is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Strathclyde with experience and executive responsibility for the development and delivery of significant capital projects.

At a time of expansion for NHS Golden Jubilee, Steven will bring this particular expertise to provide governance oversight and to help inform and shape the work of our Board.

On his appointment, Steven Wallace said: “I feel extremely privileged to be joining NHS Golden Jubilee at such an important time in its 20 year history.

“As a Non-Executive Director, I look forward to using my experience and skills, working closely with colleagues to provide both exceptional care for our patients while also making sure we use NHS resources to the best effect.”

Susan Douglas-Scott CBE, Chair of NHS Golden Jubilee, added: “I am delighted to welcome Steven to NHS Golden Jubilee. He brings a wealth of experience and an exceptional track record in finance and building projects that will complement the existing talents within our Board.

“Steven joins NHS Golden Jubilee at an exciting and challenging time. We have already opened the first of the National Treatment Centres (our Eye Centre) on site and we are looking forward to completing our new build surgical centre in 2023.

“NHS Golden Jubilee will continue to collaborate and work with colleagues across health, social care, academia and industry to help address the impact of health inequalities and social barriers to provide a more sustainable future healthcare system”

Mr Wallace’s appointment is for 4 years, from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2026.

The appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Steven Wallace background

Originally from Girvan, Steven qualified with an Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Glasgow before embarking on a global finance career with the Weir Group PLC. Steven is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Strathclyde.

Over the course of his career Steven has held senior finance posts across a number of geographies.  In addition, Steven has had executive responsibility for the development and delivery of significant capital projects.

He is also Acting Vice Chair and Non-Executive on the Board of Management of Ayrshire College, to which he commits 2 to 4 days per month.  He does not receive any remuneration in relation to this role.

Steven has had no political activity in the last 5 years.
