Research Institute Research Governance

All research projects hosted by the Golden Jubilee Research Institute – irrespective of funder or sponsor – are subject to research governance review and approval. The purpose of this process is to ensure:

• Proper governance of research. This provides an assurance that the public can have confidence in, and benefit from, quality research in health and community care; and
• High scientific, ethical and financial standards, transparent decision-making processes, clear allocation of responsibilities and robust monitoring arrangements.

Research Governance is based on the following documents:

• UK Framework for Health and Social Care Research  - this is a guidance document that applies to all research projects taking place within the NHS and Social Care.

• EU Clinical Trials Directive – this legislation applies to all research involving novel drugs or drugs used out with their license.

• Golden Jubilee Research Quality Framework - The purpose of this document is to contextualise these policies and procedures. Essentially, this document will provide assurance to patients, staff and the Golden Jubilee Board that any additional risks relating to research are managed effectively.
